Saúl Savín Salcedo Zárate (born August 29, 1997 in Capiatá ) is a Paraguayan soccer player who has been under contract with the Argentine first division club CA Huracán since July 2018 . The central defender has been a Paraguayan international since September 2019 .

Career

Saúl Salcedo, born in Capiatá , comes from the youth department of Club Olimpia , where he was promoted to the first team during the 2014 season. The central defender made his professional debut in the top Paraguayan division on October 13, 2014 in a 2-1 away defeat against 12 de Octubre FC . In this game year 2014 he played three league games. In the next 2015 season, Salcedo shuttled between starting line-up and reserve. He finished the season with 21 league appearances and won the Clausura with Club Olimpia.

On the 3rd match day of the following Apertura 2016, Saúl Salcedo scored his first two goals in the Paraguayan league in a 2-2 draw against Club Nacional . In that game year he completed 18 league games in which he scored five times.

On July 17, 2017, he moved on loan for the entire 2017/18 season to the Argentine first division club CA Huracán , who secured an optional purchase option for the player. On August 27, 2017 (1st matchday), he played his first game for his new club in the 1: 3 away defeat against CA Independiente . He quickly established himself as an important regular player and only missed five of the 27 league games in March 2018 due to an injury.

In July 2018, Salcedo was permanently signed by CA Huracán, who paid Club Olimpia $ 2.4 million for 80 percent of the center-back's transfer rights . Also in the 2018/19 season he was an integral part of the starting line-up of head coach Gustavo Alfaro and his successors Antonio Mohamed and Néstor Apuzzo . On May 15, 2019, he scored his first goal for CA Huracán in a 2-0 home win against Unión de Sunchales in the first round of the Copa Argentina . He appeared in 32 competitive games that season, in which he scored two goals.

In the following season 2019/20 he kept his regular place and played in 19 league games in which he remained without a goal participation.

National team

Saúl Salcedo took part with the Paraguayan U20 national team in the U20 South American Championship 2015 in Uruguay . At the tournament he played seven games and finished sixth with the selection. Two years later he played two games at the U20 South American Championship in 2017 and was eliminated with the Albirrojos in the group stage.

In spring 2020 he was in action for the U23 in qualifying for the 2020 Olympic Games . He scored one goal in four games.

On September 10, 2019, Saúl Salcedo made his debut in a 4-2 friendly win against Jordan in the senior national team .
