Tomba IV

The Tomba IV of the Domus de Janas of Sa Figu near Ittiri in the province of Sassari in Sardinia is an unusual rock tomb of the Nuragic culture , which, like Molafa and Sos Furrighesos, is provided with an architecturally designed portal stele in the style of the giant tombs . The Campo Santo of Sa Figu contains 11 more or less destroyed Domus de Janas.

The best preserved tomb, Tomba IV, bears a resemblance to the nearby Domus de Janas of Mesu 'e Montes , Molafa , Sa Rocca and Su Lampu and Su Carralzu , as it was carved out of a rock wall like this one. On the front of the only hinted at exedra, grave IV has a two-part central portal stele with a width and height of about 3.2 m. The upper part of the stele made of a conical, trapezoidal stone body (length about 8.8 m, width 2.8 to 2.0 m; height 1.5–1.3 m) with three holes for receiving the baityloi lies on the rock face . The chamber inside is round and has a diameter of about 6.00 m and a height of 2.00 m.

Sa Figu is one of around 50 prehistoric Sardinian examples (e.g. Molafa , Pesciarzos , Sos Furrighesos ) of a rock tomb with a portal stele carved into rock, as is otherwise typical for giant tombs on the island . Orthostat graves (actually orthostats imitating graves) are common in the limestone areas of Logudoro : Campu Luntanu , Sa Rocca and Su Lampu , Su Carralzu (near Florinas), Mesu 'e Montes or Sas Puntas .

Nearby lie nuraghi Corvos, Sa and Su Menta Tumbone and the Dolmen of Runara .
