Saab Lancia 600 (1981)

The Saab Lancia 600 was a car model developed jointly by Saab and Lancia based on the Lancia Delta .

Shortly after production of the Saab 96 was phased out in January 1980, the Saab Lancia 600 was introduced in the Nordic countries. Saab had previously worked with Lancia and had been selling the small Autobianchi A112 in the Nordic countries since 1974 as the Lancia A112 .

The 600 was offered to customers as a "real" Saab, which was only manufactured in Italy . Saab was involved in the development of the heating and ventilation system. Sales started promisingly, but with the onset of the cold season, the heating system turned out to be unsuitable for the climate in the north. As a result, sales collapsed, and it took until 1983 for the 1980 vehicles to be sold off, which only succeeded at high discounts. The car was offered in Sweden until 1986, although it was no longer advertised as a Saab, but as a Lancia.

The 1980 vintage was also sold in Denmark , Norway and Sweden . However, because of its high price, it sold even worse in Denmark and Norway than in Sweden. Saab was also the importer for the Saab Lancia 600 in Finland. Here, however, the car was not advertised as it was in competition with the Horizon produced by Saab-Valmet .

The vehicle was available in three versions: the 600 GL with 1300 cm³ and 55 kW (75 PS), the 600 GLS with 1500 cm³ and 63 kW (85 PS) and the 1500 version also as the 600 GLE. The "E" did not stand for injection, but rather meant luxury equipment. From 1983 only the variant with 1500 cm³ and 63 kW was offered. The GLS and GLE versions were intended exclusively for Sweden.
