The PhoeniX is a concept vehicle from Saab that was first shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2011. It implements various new technologies and design concepts developed by Saab. The design was created under the direction of Saab's new chief designer, Jason Castriota .
The PhoeniX is based on the automotive platform of the same name that Saab has developed for future mid-range models. It is a 2 + 2 seated sports car with a very compact silhouette (length 4.42 m, height 1.33 m). The front wheels are powered by a 1.6 liter petrol engine with 147 kW output from BMW / PSA , which is also used in various Citroën and Peugeot models as well as in the BMW Mini , and the rear wheels are powered by a 25 kW electric motor, which is also used as a generator for regenerative braking. This makes the PhoeniX a type of hybrid electric vehicle .
Various measures help ensure that the car has the aerodynamics required for stable road holding in a sports car, but also has an unusually low drag coefficient of 0.25 for sports cars. Thus, the side of the vehicle and in front of / behind the wheels baffles arranged and the side of the "C-pillar" are found as a spoiler serving channel-like air guides (so-called. "Buttresses"), which in a similar way, already at the Bertone Mantide same designer to Have come into use.
Instead of a conventional multimedia / navigation system , there is a touchscreen- controlled, Android- based on-board computer that can call up 500 vehicle values. The system called IQon (pronounced like Icon) contains an API that can be used by third-party developers for programs with other vehicle-specific functions.
The car, equipped with a hatchback hatch and a trunk with “cargo rails”, reaches a governed top speed of 250 km / h with a standard driving cycle consumption of 5.0 l / 100 km.
The design shows numerous new elements that differ from previous Saab vehicles. The presented car is painted in silver metallic using a special technique with eight layers of paint.
