It is rich in magnesium and calcium and has small amounts of sodium and potassium and small traces of lithium , barium and strontium . The flow of the spring is about 3.3 l / s.

history

Rilchingen had a salty spring on the von der Leyen family's lands . At the end of the 18th century, the family had a saltworks built with a graduation tower and brewing pans, which produced around 3,000 quintals of salt per year. In 1841 the salt water was then used for medical purposes. A spa hotel with bathing houses and a spa park was created. In 1872 a new spa building was built. In 1917 the Order of the Brothers of Mercy bought the bath for 100,500 marks and built a children's recreation center and made the brine spring accessible to the general public. In 1929 the spa building was significantly expanded. In the 1950s it was mainly miners who came to Rilchingen to take cures here. During drilling in the 1990s, warm thermal water was discovered in addition to the brine source . In the mid-2000s it was decided to build a thermal bath.

The thermal baths opened on September 2, 2012 after a two-year construction period. The architect of the thermal baths is Rolf Böker from the Geising & Böker architects' office. The investment costs for the thermal bath amounted to around 14 million euros, the total costs for the health park amount to around 24 million euros. In addition to the Saarland thermal baths, a “vitality center” with doctors, physiotherapists, cosmetic studios and a fitness studio was opened in February 2013.
