Sabine Herold (* 1973 in Heidelberg , Germany ) is a German-Swiss Protestant Reformed pastor , editor, author and speaker.

Live and act

Herold came to Switzerland in 1995 and studied Protestant theology for five years. She then worked as an editor for various Christian magazines, such as Lydia , Perspektive and Der Sonntagsfreund .

In 2007 she was ordained as an evangelical reformed pastor and then held a pastor's office in Erlinsbach in the canton of Aargau until 2014. Since 2015 she has again been active as a pastor in Wohlen in Aargau .

Herold's books are mainly about people who have been shaped by strokes of fate, suffering, pain, diseases and addictions and who have found ways of acceptance, change or overcoming. She also holds seminars and lectures on these existential questions and shows solutions from a Christian perspective.

She has developed a creative use of language and has also translated basic biblical texts into contemporary words, such as the Ten Commandments , which she calls God's offers for good relationships:

  1. I want to be your God: “I am who I am” led you from the confines to freedom. I want to be your companion in life, so that you arrive safely at your destination. If you want to stay free, then you will not have any additional or substitute gods, but will love me and keep my commandments! You don't need gods, idols, lucky charms and other aids. You have me, who I am with you, as a source and companion of life!
  2. I will not let myself be determined: If you want to remain free, then you will neither fix me nor others in a fixed picture or press them into a scheme. Do not seek help from other gods, do not enslave yourself to them and thus get into new addictions. You won't regret it, because I take my yes to you and your yes to me seriously!
  3. The essence is in the name, that is why the name is sacred: If you want to remain free, then you will not speak of me thoughtlessly or in high spirits or act in my name; think before you talk!
  4. You need a rest day to celebrate life! If you want to stay free, then on the holiday you will not let yourself drift away from work, instead you will interrupt work every week. This day is mine.
  5. Don't forget: Without your parents, you wouldn't exist! If you want to stay free, then honor your parents, without whom you would not exist. Honor your origin - yourself; that means life!
  6. Respect and protect life! If you want to stay free, you will not end your life on your own initiative. I alone am the Lord of life and death. Be mindful of yourself and others. Do not kill with thoughts, words or deeds, but respect and protect life - your own and that of others!
  7. & 10. Remain loyal to your life partner and treat the other to their partner. If you want to stay free, you will not have any other relationships besides your marriage. Marriage is an image for the covenant, the relationship between you and me, and must be protected. If you want to stay free, then you won't even want to be jealous of another person's partner and want them. Don't take someone's partner away, not even in your mind. Do not give room to greed, the desire for another partner.
  8. & 10. Be grateful for what you have and allow the other to have their property! If you want to remain free, then you will not take away anyone's property (whatever belongs to him or her in terms of people, property, family, thoughts, knowledge, ideas). If you want to stay free, then you will not even be jealous of others and desire what belongs to them, for greed is the root of all evil.
  9. Speak the truth; do not get involved in lies! If you want to stay free, then you will not rob anyone's reputation, gossip about anyone, or spread rumors. Think before you speak; and then speak the truth!
