Sabine E. Panzer (born January 26, 1960 in Judenburg ) is an Austrian composer .

life and work

Panzer studied music theory and composition with Boguslaw Schaeffer in Salzburg and electroacoustic / electronic composition with Dieter Kaufmann in Vienna . She attended international master classes and workshops with John Cage and Alfred Schnittke, among others . The defining personality to this day remains for Panzer Luigi Nono . In parallel to her university education, the composer completed private piano studies with Markus Hinterhäuser . The untimely death of Nono led to retreat and travel. The vocal work TOTENKLAGE was written in Spain - in memory of Luigi NONO . In 1999, Panzer met Eduardo Chillida and his work in San Sebastian . The composer studied his sculpture Wind Combs - Peines de los Vientos and space / time sculptures. In the full-length composition Homenaje - Peine de los Vientos di Eduardo Chillida for 5 bass and contrabass clarinets 2 , the composer continued her sculptural clashes for the first time into specific musical language.

Sabine E. Panzer is currently living in seclusion in Berlin and Vienna.

The terms absence and movement determine the composer's musical thinking. In 2001, she coined the term centroAssente - absent center - for her music, denoting the reference point that never appears acoustically within a musical work. Panzer develops expressive, interval modal structures and works coherently with her so-called non-time-areas & non-space-areas and with sound intrinsics (sound inherent movement - the threshold from sound to noise / sound to silence). Playing with the functionality and characteristics of interval and microinterval relationships form an essential component of musical language. Sabine E. Panzer uses her specific fermata areas to cope with complex time structures.
