history

Sacred Gate was founded in March 2008 by Nicko Nikolaidis ( guitar ), Jim Over ( vocals ), both of Greek origin, and Holger Zimmermann ( drums ). All three played in the band Made of Iron until they broke up in 2005. Peter Beckers ( bass ) joined in October 2008. With this line-up, the band played their first concert on January 17th, 2009 in Mönchengladbach. In April 2010 Christian Wolf replaced the retired drummer Holger Zimmermann. With this line-up, there were other appearances and at the same time the band was preparing for the studio stay.

On November 18, 2010, the recordings for the first album began in Andy Funke's Metallurgy Studio in Mönchengladbach . The band received numerous offers for a recording contract and finally decided on the Italian label Metal on Metal Records . In September 2011 the band released the self-produced and limited EP entitled Creators of the Downfall . The EP contained three studio songs and three live songs. The debut album, When Eternity Ends was released on April 27, 2012 and received good reviews, the band has been compared to bands like Iron Maiden , Iced Earth and Judas Priest .

In October 2012 the band returned to the Metallurgy Studio to record the follow-up to When Eternity Ends . In order to be able to implement their songs live one hundred percent in terms of sound, the band announced the official entry of rhythm guitarist Björn Walde in March 2013.

On April 19, 2013, the band's second work was released with the title Tides of War , a concept album about the battle of the Spartans against the Persians in 480 BC. At Thermopylae . The band had three open air festival appearances in the summer of 2013 and is headlining various concerts.

In October 2014 Jim Over left the band and in May 2015 the Dutchman Ron Slaets was introduced as the new singer. The band split up in April 2016. Nevertheless, the band and the record company decided to release the album "Countdown to Armageddon", which had already been recorded in February / March, in November 2016.

style

According to founding member and main songwriter Nicko Nikolaidis, the influences of the band members are Iron Maiden , Judas Priest , Manowar , Running Wild , Black Sabbath , Metallica , Accept , Sanctuary and Iced Earth . Sacred Gate combine hard riffs with great melodies and stylistically move in the realm of traditional heavy metal. On the second album Tides of War also are thrash metal , power metal and US Teutonic Metal to hear elements, proving the great musical range of the band.
