When Eternity Ends ( Engl. For "If eternity ends") is the debut studio album of Mönchengladbach heavy metal / power metal band Sacred Gate , released 27 April 2012.

Emergence

After Christian Wolf replaced Holger Zimmermann, who had left the drummer, in April 2010, the band went to the Metallurgy Studio in Mönchengladbach on November 18, 2010 to record nine songs together with Andy Funke, producer and owner of the studio. These were recorded in 15 days and then mixed and mastered by Funke. The band contacted a number of record labels and received offers for a record deal . The choice was made for the Italian label Metal on Metal Records , where When Eternity Ends was released on April 27, 2012 .

Cover design

The band commissioned artist Jowita Kaminska, who is also co-founder of Metal on Metal Records, to design the album artwork . Since the songs are about hell , war and the end of the world , the band wanted an apocalyptic scenario for the cover , which Kaminska implemented in the spirit of the band. The atomic explosion in the background and the destroyed city refer to the pieces When Eternity Ends and Creators of the Downfall . The drawing at the bottom right shows the Grim Reaper , who was the main character of the cover on the 2011 published Creators of the Downfall EP. The falling Icarus in the top right refers to the song Burning Wings and the demons to the song Earth, my Kingdom .

Song information

  • Creators of the Downfall (English for "Creator of Downfall") was the title track of the self-produced EP released in September 2011. The song is about the fall of humanity through self-destruction.
  • Burning Wings (English for "Burning wings") was also on the EP Creators of the Downfall . The song deals with the legend of Icarus and also conveys the message that humans should not underestimate the power of nature.
  • The Realm of Hell (English for "The Kingdom of Hell") is about Hell and its eternal torture and torment.
  • When Eternity Ends , the title track of the album, is an anti-war song.
  • Freedom or Death deals with the Greek Revolution and the Greek War of Independence against the rule of the Ottomans in 1821. The first stanzas and the chorus are excerpts from the Greek national anthem, written by Dionysios Solomos and translated into English by Rudyard Kipling .
  • In the Heart of the Iron Maiden (English for " In the Heart of the Iron Maiden ") is the thematic continuation of the song The Alchemist by the ex-band of Nicko Nikolaidis (guitar) and Jim Over (vocals), Made of Iron. The song is about the arrest and torture of an alchemist by the Holy Inquisition . With this song title, the band wanted to pay tribute to their greatest influence, Iron Maiden .
  • Vengeance (English for "retaliation") is the continuation of the song In the Heart of the Iron Maiden and the end of this trilogy. Vengeance is also one of the three studio songs on the EP Creators of the Downfall .
  • Earth, my Kingdom is about the fall of the fallen angels and their rule over the earth.
  • Heaven Under Siege (English for "Heaven under siege") is based on the film God's Army - The Last Battle (original title: The Prophecy ) from 1995, which is about the age-old battle between apostate and godly angels.

style

Rüdiger Stehle from powermetal.de speaks of “a very melodic mixture of Power Metal with European and American influences, not without mentioning the NWoBHM now and then when it comes to the melody of the lead guitars ”.
