history

The place Safferstetten was first mentioned in the year 735 when the Bavarian Duke Hugbert donated the extensive estate to the bishopric of Salzburg . Over the centuries there were different spellings for the place, such as Savarstedi and Sauerstetten . Safferstetten was the seat of a Hofmark that had been in Passau possession since 1441 and only came to the electorate and later Kingdom of Bavaria in 1803 with the rule of Riedenburg and the entire bishopric of Passau . The small hamlet of Füssing, located right next to Safferstetten, which has always been Bavarian, only came to the then newly formed rural community of Safferstetten in 1818 with the Bavarian municipal edict.

In Füssing thermal springs were found in 1937/38 when searching for crude oil . The spa business began in the 1950s. In 1969, the district of Füssing was given the title "Bad". In 1970, at a citizens' meeting in the Freudenstein Inn on March 1, 1970, the community citizens of Safferstetten who were present voted almost unanimously in favor of renaming the community Safferstetten, which was only implemented with the community reform a year later. On April 1, 1971, the municipality of Bad Füssing was reorganized from the municipalities of Safferstetten, Egglfing am Inn and Würding .
