Safi Airways was an Afghan airline based in special economic zone of Dubai Airport and based on the Kabul airport .
history
Safi Airways was founded in September 2006 by the Afghan millionaire Abdul Rahim Safi and his clan. According to Flight International , the first flight took place on November 17, 2007 with a Boeing 767-200ER purchased from Air China with three weekly connections from Kabul to Sharjah .
Safi Airways has its head office at Dubai Airport , operates according to information provided by the guidelines of the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA , has at Kabul airport own service services around the aircraft ( English fixed base operator, FBO) and allows handling services for business aircraft to freighters of the type Boeing 747 .
Safi is one of three airlines founded in Afghanistan and competes with the state-owned Ariana Afghan Airlines and the private Kam Air . It is also the first Afghan airline to be bookable in the global reservation systems.
Since November 24, 2010, all Afghan airlines without exception have been banned from entering EU airspace. This also applies to Safi Airways. Safi temporarily leased a Boeing 757 with a Spanish aircraft registration number in order to be able to continue serving the Kabul-Frankfurt am Main route. The Airbus A340-300 has meanwhile left the fleet and was scrapped by the owner in Lourdes in 2011 .
Destinations
Safi Airways flies from Kabul to national destinations in addition to international destinations in the Middle East . Before the entry ban into EU airspace was issued, there was a connection from Kabul to Frankfurt am Main three times a week . This route was served with the Airbus A340-300 in a three-class configuration (Business, Premium Economy, Economy).
There are interline agreements with Lufthansa , United Airlines , Emirates and Qatar Airways .
