Sage Rosenfels (* 6. March 1978 in Maquoketa , Iowa ) is a former American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played for some clubs in the National Football League (NFL), but mostly only as a backup. Most recently he played with the Minnesota Vikings , where he was fired before the 2012 season and retired from professional sports.

Career

College career

The highlight of Rosenfels' college career was winning the Insight.com Bowl in 2000. He was recognized as an offensive MVP for both the bowl and within the team .

NFL career

Sage Rosenfels joined the NFL Draft in 2001 . He was selected in the fourth round as the 109th player overall by the Washington Redskins . As only the third quarterback, he was not used this season.

Just before the 2002 season , he was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a seven-round draft pick. In Miami he prevailed and from then on belonged to the extended permanent staff. He delivered a memorable game in 2005 when he came into play against the Buffalo Bills at 3:23 and was able to turn the game to 24:23. However, the Dolphins did not renew the contract with Sage Rosenfels.

In March 2006, the Houston Texans signed Sage Rosenfels. He took on the role of the second quarterback. In the game against the Tennessee Titans , he almost managed to catch up again. After the Texans were already 3:21 back, Rosenfels came into play. With three touchdowns thrown , he led his team to 22:28 before the game ended in a win for the Titans. In spring 2007, the Sporting News newspaper predicted his breakthrough in the 2007 season . Contrary to these predictions, he shared the regular place with Matt Schaub , but had the better statistics with four wins in five games.

The opening game of the 2008 season against the Indianapolis Colts was a low point in Rosenfels' career. The Texans were already leading 27:17 in the last quarter when he led the Colts back to winning ways with two fumbles and an interception . Indianapolis won the game with 31:27 and Sage Rosenfels dropped out for the following games due to an injury sustained in this game. Overall, he got six wins and four defeats in three seasons with the Houston Texans as starting quarterback .

The Minnesota Vikings announced the signing of Rosenfels in February 2009. In return, the Texans got a four-round draft pick. After the commitment of Brett Favre he was only the third quarterback behind Backup Tarvaris Jackson .

At the beginning of September he moved with Darius Reynaud to the New York Giants , where he did not get a chance due to illness. In 2011 he moved back to the Miami Dolphins , but they released him during the season. Also during this season, the Minnesota Vikings signed the quarterback, but where he fell victim to the squad cut before the 2012 season . After that, Rosenfels resigned from professional sports.
