Saints Row IV is an action game and the fourth part of the computer game series of the same name . It was developed by the US company Deep Silver Volition and published by the German publisher Deep Silver on August 23, 2013 for Windows , PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 . It was released for Linux on December 21, 2015 .

action

The game continues the storyline of the predecessor Saints Row: The Third . The player character, head of 3rd Street Saints , has meanwhile been elected President of the United States. As the new head of state, he must defend the nation against an alien invasion during the course of the game. The game character can be freely chosen and a large assortment of weapons can be built. In addition, superpowers are available with which the character can jump, sprint and throw some things and let them float.

Gameplay

Saints Row IV continues the gameplay of its predecessors without any major changes. Similar to the Grand Theft Auto series , it is an open game world in which the player can accept numerous assignments, most of which have to be resolved by fighting. The event is presented from a third-person perspective .

development

Some of the concepts and content of Saints Row IV were originally designed as a stand-alone expansion, Enter the Dominatrix, for its predecessor, Saints Row: The Third . At the initiative of Jason Rubin , President of Volitions parent company THQ at the time , the project was expanded to a full-fledged successor in mid-2012. When THQ had to file for bankruptcy due to its financial problems and was broken up, the German media company Koch Media acquired the developer studio together with the Saints Row license at the auction of the assets . The Munich company finally had the work completed under its publishing label Deep Silver.

Unlike the previous titles, the game appeared uncut in Germany. However, the USK initially did not want to issue a release without extensive adjustments, which would have made it possible for the Federal Testing Office to index media harmful to young people . After an objection from the publisher Deep Silver and a renewed examination, the game was finally rated as 18+.

reception

The game received mostly positive reviews ( Metacritic : 86% (Win) / 82 (X360) / 77 (PS3)). In the first week of sales, publisher Deep Silver reported over one million copies of the game sold. The Windows version in particular was sold three times as much as its predecessor.

Extensions

The expansion Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell was announced as part of the Penny Arcade Expo . Saints Row IV: Re-Elected was also announced, which should be a new edition of Saints Row IV for the current consoles. Both were released at the end of January 2015.
