The 2nd ski flying world championship was held from March 8 to 10, 1973 in Oberstdorf, Germany, on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill .

Jump

After the world championship was awarded to Oberstdorf, the hill was completely rebuilt in preparation for this. So the hill was extended to a K165 and the inrun tower was replaced by a concrete construction. The hill record set by Norwegian Lars Allegrini with 150 meters on February 11, 1967 , fell during the World Championships and was improved five times. In the end, the hill record was 169 meters. Heinz Wosipiwo's jump was also the new ski jumping world record and lasted for a year. Walter Steiner could not stand the jump to 179 meters by Walter Steiner , so this is not a hill record.

competition

The world championship began with two training days on March 8th and 9th, 1973. After the Swiss Hans Schmid jumped to 166 meters straight away at the start of the competition on Friday , the run-up was shortened to the lowest step, from which the entire competition round was jumped . Due to strong weather fluctuations, in the end only the two runs on March 10th were included in the world championship ranking, which was won by the German Hans-Georg Aschenbach .
