Career

Wilson made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament 1971/72 . He achieved his best result with rank 56 at the opening competition in Innsbruck . In the overall standings he came in 69th place. At the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , Wilson jumped 56th from the normal hill. From the large hill he was tied with the German Heinz Wosipiwo on the 39th place after the jumping .

A few weeks after the games, Wilson started at the 1972 ski flying world championship in Planica and finished 22nd in individual flying . With the following Four Hills Tournament 1972/73 Wilson denied his most successful tour. Already at the opening jump on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf he achieved the best individual result in a tour of his career with rank 24. After he ended up only beaten in midfield in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Innsbruck , he finished the tour in Bischofshofen with a good 34th place. In the overall ranking he reached 38th place.

At the ski flying world championship in 1973 in Oberstdorf , Wilson landed a very good tenth place in individual flying . After he showed only a poor performance in the following Four Hills Tournament in 1973/74 and only finished 58th in the overall ranking, he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun . In the individual competition on the large hill he reached 34th place after jumps on 86 and 77 meters. From the normal hill, Wilson landed 59th after jumps on 70 and 69 meters.

After two more weak Four Hills Tournament, in which he did not even jump into the top 50, Wilson contested his last international tournament with the start at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , where he jumped from the normal hill to 36th place. He reached 45th place on the large hill.

In January 1977 he suffered a complicated leg injury with a fracture and ended his active ski jumping career despite initial hopes for a comeback as a result.
