Peter Štefančič (born March 3, 1947 in Kranj ) is a former Yugoslav ski jumper .

Career

made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1967/68 , which, with 23rd place overall, was also his most successful tour in the course of his career. In addition, he achieved his best individual tour result with rank 25 on the Paul-Ausserleitner-Schanze in Bischofshofen .

At the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble , he competed in jumping on the large hill and reached 38th place after jumps on 94 and 85 meters. After the first round he was still in 30th place.

In Štrbské Pleso he was part of the national team at the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 two years later . In the individual competition on the large hill, he finished 43rd after jumps on 80 and 100 meters. From the normal hill he achieved a slight increase in performance and after jumps on 75.5 and 77 meters he came 36th.

After two more weak starts at the Four Hills Tournament , which Štefančič finished in 1971 as 37th and 1972 as 40th, he started again for Yugoslavia at the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo . After the first round of the normal hill he was still on a weak first round in 20th place, but was able to improve to tenth with the fifth best jump in the second round. From the large hill, Štefančič could not do this, so that in the end he had no chances in 48th place.

At the ski flying world championship in Planica in 1972 , he came in tenth. In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1972/73 and 1973/74 Štefančič finished 34th overall. In the meantime he flew to 26th place at the ski flying world championship in 1973 on the Heini-Klopfer ski jumping hill in Oberstdorf . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 1974 in Falun , he reached 42nd place on the large hill. The jumping on the normal hill was even more disappointing for Štefančič with 52nd place.

At the ski flying world championship in 1975 on the Kulm in Bad Mitterndorf , Štefančič once again reached a good 24th place.

After a year break from touring, Štefančič came back to the squad for the 1975/76 Four Hills Tournament . But after he achieved less than 700 points and only rank 72 in the overall standings for the first time and thus missed the Olympic qualification, he ended his active ski jumping career.
