At the Four Hills Tournament 1972/73 he also convinced for the first time in the tour with good performances. At the opening competition in Oberstdorf on the Schattenbergschanze he jumped in 14th place on a good top 20 place. In Innsbruck and Bischofshofen it was difficult for him to keep his performances constant. In the end, Nordgren reached 44th place overall. In 1973 he won the Swedish championship for the second time in a row.

He completed his best tour with the Four Hills Tournament in 1973/74 . He achieved his best individual tour result with 13th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the overall standings he achieved 36th place with 790.3 points.
