Koba Zakadze ( Georgian კობა წაქაძე , Russian Ко́ба Варденови́ч Дзака́дзе , transcribed Koba Wardenowitsch Dsakadze ; born August 19, 1934 in Bakuriani ) is a former Soviet ski jumper .
Career
Zakadze took part in an international competition for the first time as part of the Four Hills Tournament 1955/56 . He was able to win the jumping in Innsbruck on January 6, 1956 . He then took part in the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo . After he had finished eighth there after the first round, he fell on his second jump and dropped back to 30th place. In the following years he continued to take part regularly in the Four Hills Tournament. He was able to celebrate further podium places in 1958 as third in Bischofshofen and in 1959 as second in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . At the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley , he finished ninth. At the New Year's event in 1961 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, he succeeded in another victory in the Four Hills Tournament. In December of the same year he was able to come second in the jumping in Innsbruck, which was the second tournament at the time. After that he did not get any more podium placements in the Four Hills Tournament. But he took part in this until his retirement in 1972.
A few months after his last podium place in the Four Hills Tournament, he was able to take fifth place on the normal hill at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in February 1962 . This was his best result at a world championship. Zakadze was 13th on the large hill. Before that, he was 46th in Lahti in 1958 . At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , when competitions of large and normal hills were organized for the first time, he only took part in the competition on the large hill, in which he finished 27th. Two years later he was sixth at the World Championships in Oslo in 1966 , also on the large hill. Zakadze played his last World Cup in 1970 when he finished 22nd in both competitions. At the end of his career he took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , where he was ninth on the normal hill and 35th on the large hill.
Zakadze was one of the pioneers of the so-called fish style , in which the arms were placed against the body and no longer stretched out and the body was quickly brought into an extreme position after the jump. In addition, he was characterized by his powerful jump.
He is the father of the Georgian ski jumper Kachaber Zakadze .
