Sacrament house St. Martin (Euskirchen)
The sacrament house in the Catholic parish church of St. Martin in Euskirchen , a town in the south of North Rhine-Westphalia , was created at the end of the 15th century.
The tabernacle of sandstone has a base with molded pillars , which consists of four parts, which are supported by seated lions. The four-sided case leans one side against the wall of the choir . It is provided with openwork round arches and keel arches in the form of canopy-like ends. The corner pillars are richly profiled, in front of them are small figures on consoles, which were added in the 19th century. Each section of the case is closed by a wrought-iron bar lattice door; the frame shows a tendril motif . A three-sided keel arch canopy with finely openwork crabs and finials juts out over each field . Under the canopies are depicted in high relief : Christ in Gethsemane, the Lord's Supper and the crucifixion of Christ . All scenes are colored in focus . Of the original three, there are still two prophets with banners above each canopy.
The structure over three floors consists of a central, square pillar, which protrudes from thin, free-standing services and large capitals, figurines that are no longer preserved. The upper storey is set over the corner from the perforated four-sided buttress framework. The top of the structure is slightly curved forward and is crowned with a pelican .
After the severe damage in World War II , the figure decorations and parts of the architecture were renewed.
