Salémata is a city in southeast Senegal . It is prefecture of the Salémata department in the Kédougou region .
Geographical location
Salémata is located 550 kilometers southeast of Dakar and 67 kilometers west of the regional prefecture of Kédougou in the Bassari Mountains between the Gambia River , which flows nine kilometers north of the city and the border with neighboring Guinea , which approaches it to within twelve kilometers in the south.
history
The village of Salémata received the status of a commune (city) in 2008 because from then on it was the prefecture of a department. The urban area extends from the mosque of Salémata a certain number of kilometers in all four directions. Mathematically, this resulted in an urban area of 92.4 km².

The 2013 census gave the city a population of 4,751.
traffic
Salémata is off the network of national roads . There is only a connection to the N 7 via the regional prefecture of Kédougou further east . The Kédougou airport there offers a connection to the national air transport network.
