The Salamis Glory was a cruise ship of the Cypriot Salamis Cruise Lines , which was built in 1962 as Anna Nery for the passenger service from Manus to Buenos Aires .
period of service
As a passenger ship
The Anna Nery was ordered in 1960 as one of two sister ships by the Companhia de Navegacao Costeira and built at the Brodogradiliste Uljanik shipyard in Pula . The ship was launched on November 5, 1961 and was put into service on August 27, 1962 on the route from Manus to Buenos Aires. After a year in service, the first major accident occurred while the ship was in service when it collided with the Brazilian tanker Presidente Deodoro on October 13, 1963 . Two crew members of the tanker were killed. The stern of the Anna Nery was completely destroyed in the collision. Nevertheless, the ship was able to return to port on its own. In the fall of 1964, Anna Nery returned to service. In 1978 the ship was decommissioned.
As a cruise ship
After the decommissioning, the ship was sold to Kavounides Lines and converted into a cruise ship. It was renamed Danaos for this purpose . In the same year, however, it came under the name Constellation . From 1982 it was in use for the US market. In 1986 the Constellation was launched after Kavounides Lines had to file for bankruptcy.
In the years that followed, the ship changed hands several times, but was not brought back into service. It was not until 1992 that the ship came back into service as Regent Spirit for Regency Cruises . The ship was then used for cruises in the Caribbean . In 1995, however, Regency Cruises also filed for bankruptcy. The Regent Spirit was therefore reissued.
The new owner of the ship became the Salamis Cruise Line in 1996 , which renamed it Salamis Glory . From then on, the ship was used for short cruises in the Mediterranean. In 2000 the Salamis Glory was modernized.
On August 30, 2007, the Salamis Glory collided with the small freighter Shelly off Haifa , which broke in two and sank. Two crew members of the freighter were killed. The bow of the Salamis Glory was only slightly damaged.
The Salamis Glory was in good condition right up to the end, but had to be either extensively converted or taken out of service due to new safety regulations. Salamis Cruises decided on the latter due to the old age of the Salamis Glory . In December 2009, after 47 years of service, the ship was sold to Alang for scrapping , where it arrived on December 24, 2009 under the transfer name Glory . Scrapping began in spring 2010.
The sister ship of the Salamis Glory was the Rosa da Fonseca , which was also scrapped in India in 1998 .
Furnishing
The Salamis Glory had a large main restaurant, a casino , two lounges, a duty-free shop, a minibar and several large open decks with a pool and loungers. The ship could carry 480 passengers.
