Salins ( dt. Formerly Schalein ) is a parish of the deanery of Sion and a village in the municipality of Sion in the district of Sion in the Swiss canton of Valais . Salins is located on the southern slope of the Rhone Valley .
Salins was an independent political municipality until December 31, 2012 ; on January 1, 2013 it merged with the municipality of Sion.
