Sally Jean Shipard (born October 20, 1987 in Tumut ) is a former Australian soccer player .

Career

society

Shipard grew up in Wagga Wagga , New South Wales , and started playing soccer at her hometown club Wagga PCYC at the age of five . From 2009 to 2011, the midfielder played in the Australian W-League for Canberra United , and came with her team in the top four in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, the team finally secured the championship title with a 3-2 final win over Brisbane Roar .

At the beginning of 2012, she signed a half-year contract with Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga , where she made her debut on February 26, 2012 in the away game against Turbine Potsdam and played in all ten remaining games of the season over the entire game. After the end of the Bundesliga season, Shipard returned to Canberra and announced her retirement in April 2014 due to ongoing injury problems.

National team

Shipard was a member of the Australian U-20 national team from 2004 to 2006 and took part with her in 2004 at the U-19 World Cup in Thailand and in 2006 as a captain at the U-20 World Cup in Russia .

In 2004 she made her debut for the Australian national team and played in 57 games by mid-2011, scoring four goals. At the Summer Olympics in Athens , she was on the field in all four games and was also part of the Australian squad at the 2007 World Cup in China . In 2010 she and the team qualified for the 2011 World Cup in Germany by winning the Asian Cup . As in 2007, the Australians reached the round of 16 there, which they lost to Sweden .
