Salman Khan (born October 11, 1976 in New Orleans ) is an American educator and entrepreneur. He is the founder and managing director of the free learning portal Khan Academy . To do this, he created over 3,000 instructional videos.

Life

Khan grew up with his mother in New Orleans and attended a public school . His father was from Barisal in Bangladesh , his mother from Calcutta . He earned multiple degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from Harvard Business School . As early as 2004 he made small educational films with which he gave tutoring his cousin Nadia in mathematics. Due to its success, Khan soon produced more and more videos explaining various content, which he made publicly available on the Internet and which became very popular due to their ease of understanding. In 2008, he used his method to explain live to viewers of the television news channel CNN the context of the financial crisis crippling the nation's economy due to real estate speculation. Until 2009 he worked as a financial analyst at Connective Capital Management in Boston ; but then he gave up the position to devote himself entirely to developing his learning method. In 2013 he received a Heinz Award , in 2019 a Princess of Asturias Prize .

Khan lives with his wife, a Specialist for Rheumatology and Internal Medicine , and his son in Mountain View (Santa Clara County) .
