The Salmo nigripinnis is a species from the family of salmon fish (salmonids), which is endemic in Lough Melvin occurs in the north of Ireland.
features
Salmo nigripinnis reaches a length of up to 33 centimeters. The body height fits 3.9 to 4.4 times the standard length . The body is light brown to silvery with numerous black spots. Red spots are missing or there are only too few, very small ones on the back of the body. The fins, especially the pectoral fins , are dark brown to black.
Way of life
The species lives in the lake at a relatively great depth and feeds on plankton, especially water fleas and mosquito larvae . From November to December they migrate to the lake's tributaries to spawn .
