The Salmon Bay ( English for Salmon Bay ) is a small bay on the Scott Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located north of Cape Chocolate .
Participants in the Terra Nova Expedition (1910-1913) led by the British polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott originally named it Davis Bay in connection with the Davis Glacier (now the Salmon Glacier ). The latter was renamed by the New Zealand geological team of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1956-1958) to avoid confusion with the nearby Davis Glacier . The bay was consequently renamed. It is named after the name given by Frank Debenham during the Terra Nova Expedition to Salmon Hill in the immediate vicinity of the bay and the glacier after the salmon-colored rock of the hill.
