The Salmon Falls River (literally translated: " Salmon Waterfall River") is a border river between the US states of New Hampshire and Maine .

The Salmon Falls River has its origin at the dam below the Horn Pond , a small reservoir that is fed by the Great East Lake . From there the Salmon Falls River flows in a predominantly south-southeast direction along the state border over a distance of 61 km to its confluence with the Cocheco River to the Piscataqua River , their common estuary , southeast of Dover . The tides on the river are noticeable for the lowest 5 km . Cities and towns along the river are: Milton , East Rochester , Somersworth , Berwick , Rollinsford and South Berwick . The Great Works River flows into the river on the left side below South Berwick - about 5 km before the confluence of Salmon Falls and Cocheco Rivers. The Salmon Falls River drains an area of ​​595 km².
