Salomé Afonso (born November 19, 1997 ) is a Portuguese middle-distance runner .

Athletic career

Salomé Afonso gained her first international experience in 2013 when she was eliminated in the first round of the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht in the 400-meter run with 58.27 seconds. Two years later she took part in the European Junior Championships in Eskilstuna over 800 meters , but also failed there with 2: 07.72 minutes in the lead. In 2016 she reached the semi-finals at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in the 800-meter run , where she was eliminated with 2: 08.09 min, while she was eliminated in the preliminary round over 1500 meters with 4: 22.68 min. In the following year she failed at the European Athletics U23 Championships 2017 in Bydgoszcz over 800 meters with 2: 07.10 min in the first round. In 2019 she won the U23 Mediterranean Indoor Championships in Miramas over 800 meters in 2: 08.18 minutes and then came fifth in the 1500 meter run at the U23 European Championships in Gävle with 4: 25.78 minutes . In December she reached sixth place with the mixed relay at the European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon after 18:29 min.

From 2015 to 2018 Afonso was Portuguese champion in the 800-meter run outdoors and in 2019 over 1500 meters. In the hall she won over 800 meters from 2015 to 2017 and in 2019 in the 1500 meter run.
