Miramas is a French city with 26,470 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Bouches-du-Rhône department , not far from Marseille . Miramas is a typical railroad town .
Miramas was probably made in the 5th century BC. Founded as the village of Miramas le Vieux on a rock above the valley of the Étang de Berre . The settlement was first mentioned in a document in 964 . The actual city of Miramas owes its existence to the opening of the Arles – Marseille railway line in 1848 . As a marshalling yard for nearby Marseille, it grew rapidly and later gained further economic importance through the industrial area near Fos-sur-Mer and the Marseille airport near Marignane .
To the west of the city is the Circuit de Miramas, which used to be a racing track and is now test track .
Miramas is the terminus of the two railway lines of the SNCF (French State Railways) to Marseille , one line goes directly, the other along the sea, stations and the like. a .: Sausset-les-Pins , Carry-le-Rouet and Ensuès-la-Redonne .
