Carry-le-Rouet is a French municipality with 5823 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .

geography

The municipality is located 30 kilometers west of Marseille . Neighboring towns are Sausset-les-Pins and Ensuès-la-Redonne .

history

In 1833 the community was formed. At that time it spread over an area of ​​22.54 square kilometers. From 1877 the school and town hall were in one building; the school was only moved out in 1951. In 1924, 12.44 square kilometers, i.e. more than half of the area of ​​the municipality, were assigned to the municipality of Sausset. In 1926 the community therefore had only 265 inhabitants (1921: 565). However, from 1936 and especially after the Second World War , the population rose sharply. In 2007 the community had 6342 inhabitants.
