Ensuès-la-Redonne is a commune with 5484 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the French department Bouches-du-Rhône in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region .
geography
Ensuès-la-Redonne is located a few kilometers west of Marseille between the Mediterranean coast and the Étang de Berre . The community has a small port and is a vacation destination for some tourists. The surrounding landscape is covered with heather and pine trees and has numerous hiking trails.
The center of the village is located in the Massif de l'Estaque on the flank of a slight hill that rises to the north over the sea. To the east of the old town and along the road that connects the town center of Ensuès with the small port of La Redonne , further settlements have emerged in recent years with strong population growth.
history
The community was only created in 1933 by splitting off from today's neighboring community Le Rove . Together with this parish and the parish of Gignac-La Nerthe , which was formerly part of Le Rove , Ensuès formed a parish until the end of the 18th century.
As shown by graves and amphorae found during excavations, the settlement history of the place goes back to prehistoric times.
Population development
The population in Ensuès-la-Redonne has increased disproportionately since the 1960s. Starting from a level of around 1,000 residents in 1962, the population almost quintupled due to an enormous influx until the survey in 2006. The birth rate was always positive during this period, but could not make a significant contribution to growth compared to migration.
