Salome of Pomeranian

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Salome von Pomeranian (* ~ before 1250; † October 3, 1314) was a princess of Pomeranian from the ruling house of the Samborids and by marriage Duchess of Kujawien .

Life

Salome von Pommerellen was the youngest daughter of Duke Sambor II of Pomerania and his wife Mathilde (also called Mechthildis ) of Mecklenburg (*?, † after November 23, 1270). Her older sister Margareta ( Margarethe; * ~ 1230/1234, † 1282) was the wife of King Christoph and, by marriage, Queen of Denmark .

On February 22, 1268 Salome was married to Duke Siemomyslaw of Kujawien. Siemomyslaw belonged to the lineage of the Kujavian Piasts . Salome was the mother-in-law of the last Hungarian king of the Arpad family , Andreas III , who was his first wife to be Fenena of Kujawy .

Several sons and daughters emerged from this marriage:

  • Konstanze (* between 1268 and 1274, † 1331), nun in the Cistercian monastery of Trebnitz , later abbess of the monastery
  • Leszek (* 1275, † 1340), Duke of Kujawia in Inowrocław and Gniewkowo
  • Fenena (* ~ 1276, † September 8, 1295 in Ofen ), as the wife of King Andrew III. by marriage Queen of Hungary
  • Przemysław (* 1278, † 1338 or 1339), Duke of Kujawy in Inowrocław and Gniewkowo and of Sieradz
  • Casimir (* ~ 1280, † after 1347), Duke of Kujawien in Inowrocław and Gniewkowo

In 1270 Salome granted her father Sambor II asylum in Kujawia . After the death of his brother Swantopolk II in 1266, Sambor seems to have had a quarrel with his nephew Mestwin II and was robbed of his rule by him, perhaps in 1272, when he conquered Danzig with the help of Greater Poland . He first fled to the Teutonic Order in Elbing , then he went to his daughter Salome in Kujawia, where he died on December 30th, probably in 1278.

After the death of her husband Duke Siemomyslaw, Salome took over the guardianship of her three underage sons Leszek, Przemysław and Kasimir in 1287.

Salome von Pommerellen died on October 3, 1314. The place of her death and her burial place are not known.
