Salomon Kohn (writer)

Salomon Kohn (born March 8, 1825 in Prague , Austrian Empire ; died November 6, 1904 in Prague) was an Austrian writer. He was best known for his Prague ghetto stories in several collections since 1883.

life and work

Kohn studied mathematics and astronomy. After that he worked as an observer in the Prague observatory . In 1863 he took over his father's business. His stories first appeared under "SK", later under their full name. Alongside Leopold Kompert , Kohn is one of the main representatives of German-Jewish narrative literature of his time. The precise descriptions of life in the Prague ghetto give his works a permanent place in the Jewish cultural history of East Central Europe.
