Salvatore Baldassarri

Salvatore Baldassarri (born January 4, 1907 in Faenza , Province of Ravenna , Italy , † September 3, 1982 in Ravenna ) was an Italian clergyman and Archbishop of Ravenna-Cervia .

Life

Baldassarri studied in Faenza and Bologna, and received on August 11, 1929, the sacrament of Holy Orders . Then he taught church history and dogmatics himself .

Pope Pius XII appointed him on May 3, 1956 Archbishop of Ravenna-Cervia. He was ordained bishop on June 29th of the same year by Cardinal Gaetano Cicognani ; Co- consecrators were Giuseppe Battaglia , Bishop of Faenza , and Paolo Babini , Bishop of Forlì . In Ravenna he tried to counteract the emerging anti-clericalism . Baldassarri attended the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 . He campaigned for innovations within the Church and thus came into conflict with the attitude of the Curia .

On November 29, 1975, Pope Paul VI. his resignation. Baldassarri died seven years later.
