Salvatore Lo Forte

Salvatore Lo Forte (born March 20, 1804 in Palermo , † January 10, 1885 ibid) was an Italian painter of late classicism in Sicily .

Life

Initially a student of Vincenzo Riolo , Lo Forte then attended the Accademia del Nudo in Palermo. Eventually he went to Rome on a scholarship , where he became a student of Vincenzo Camuccini .

Back in Palermo in 1827 he was given a chair at the Accademia del Nudo. He created numerous portraits and altarpieces.

While his portraits were famous, his paintings for churches, mostly painted in a strict academic-classical style, often met with criticism from his contemporaries.
