Sam Townsend (born November 26, 1985 in Reading ) is a British rower .

Athletic career

Sam Townsend rowed at the U23 World Championships in 2004 with the double scull to eleventh place, a year later he was tenth with the eighth . In 2006 he made his debut in eighth in the rowing world cup , in 2007 he returned to the double fours. At the 2007 World Championships , the British double scull took 15th place. In 2008 he took part in the single at the European Championships and won the B final. In 2009 Townsend reached the A-final in the World Cup three times with the double scull, at the 2009 World Championships he competed with Stephen Rowbotham in the double scull and placed twelfth. At the 2010 World Championships , Townsend competed in double fours, in the line-up of Charles Cousins , Sam Townsend, Bill Lucas and Stephen Rowbotham, the British double foursome reached the A-final and finished in fifth place.
