Samantha Nicole Peszek (born December 14, 1991 in Indianapolis , Indiana ) is an American gymnast . She was a member of the gymnastics team at the 2008 Summer Olympics .

Career

In 2007 she took part with the US team at the World Gymnastics Championships and Pan-American Games, where she won gold.

In March 2008 she took part in the America Cup. She finished third behind her comrades Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson.

After a solid performance at the 2008 national championships, Peszek continued to demonstrate her worth to the team in preparing for the Olympics. At the meeting where she was invited to a selection camp, most of the experts, including analysts, said she was on the team. She was then selected during the July 19, 2008 camp. Together with Peszek, Shawn Johnson , Nastia Liukin , Chellsie Memmel , Alicia Sacramone and Bridget Sloan were selected for the team.

During the 2008 Summer Olympics, Peszek injured himself in qualifying. She was the second to get injured after Chellsie Memmel. After the Summer Olympics in Beijing , Samantha expressed a desire to continue her elite gymnastics career. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, she won silver with the team.
