The Samariterstraße is a 700-meter-long road from the Frankfurter Allee to Eldenaer street in Berlin's district of Friedrichshain . It forms the central axis of the Samaritan quarter named after it .
The street was named after the adjacent Samaritan Church in 1895 . It was previously referred to as Straße 63 and Straße 63a in the development plan .
As a result of the extensive renovation measures in recent years, Samariterstraße has developed into one of the popular addresses within the eastern Berlin city center. The residential buildings that were mainly built around the turn of the 20th century shine in new splendor today. There are numerous shops in the row lined street. The street, which slopes slightly towards Frankfurter Allee, is lined with numerous trees and cobblestone.
The center is the Samariterplatz with the Samariterkirche at the level of the Bänschstrasse . At the confluence with Frankfurter Allee is the Samariterstraße subway station on the U5 subway line, built by Alfred Grenander between 1928 and 1930 .
The initiative for active remembrance , an association of anti- fascist groups and local politicians , called for a street to be named after the squatters Silvio Meier, who was murdered by neo-Nazis in the Samariterstraße underground station in 1992 . In April 2013, the Gabelsbergerstraße running parallel to Samariterstraße was renamed Silvio-Meier-Straße .
