Sambal Oelek , bourgeois Andreas Müller (born January 28, 1945 in Spiez ), is a Swiss comic artist , architect, writer and illustrator .

Life

After graduating from high school in Thun in 1964, Müller studied architecture at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich from 1965 and graduated in 1972 with an architecture diploma . His student days fell in the phase of the 1968 movement , which had a strong impact on him. During his studies he worked as a student functionary , then as an architect, typesetter , proofreader and press spokesman for a pedestrian organization. From 1977 he published comics and illustrations in periodicals . Oelek has been a freelance comic book author and illustrator since 1988. He mainly worked for the architecture magazine Hochparterre , for which he also wrote articles.

Oelek draws his (art) historical comic albums in a realistic style. The arrangement of the image sequences follows a higher-level design principle: elements of the individual images simultaneously become part of a large form spanning the entire double page. Oelek's works are based on scientific research. He lives in Aeugst am Albis .
