Sami Elopuro (born November 22, 1964 ) is a former Finnish squash player .

Career

Sami Elopuro played on the PSA World Tour from the late 1980s until the end of 1995 . During this time he reached four finals. In January 1992, he reached seventh place, his highest ranking in the world rankings.

With the Finnish national team he took part in the World Cup in 1985 , 1987 , 1989 , 1991 , 1993 and 1995 . In 1991 the team reached the semifinals and the final third place for the first time in front of their home crowd. In 1993, the team was again in the semi-finals and ultimately came fourth. Elopuro led the team as number one on both occasions. At European championships , the team around Elopuro was runner-up behind England in 1991, 1992 and 1995 . From 1984 to 1990 he was third every year with Finland, so again in 1996. He played a total of 91 internationals.

Between 1989 and 1995 he was seven times in a row in the main field of the individual world championship. His best result was reaching the quarter-finals in 1992 and 1995 . In the 1994 season he qualified for the Super Series Finals , in the group stage he was eliminated without a win. From 1987 to 1993 and 1995 he was Finnish national champion .
