Sami Kanaan (* 1964 in Beirut , Lebanon ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ) and was City President of Geneva from June 1, 2014 to May 31, 2015 ( French Maire de Genève ). He heads the culture and sport department ( Département de la culture et du sport ) of the city of Geneva.

From 1997 to 2001 Kanaan held the office of the municipal council ( Conseiller municipal ) of the city of Geneva . From 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the Grand Council ( Grand Conseil ) of the Canton of Geneva . In 2011, Canaan was finally elected to the Geneva city government ( Conseil administratif ) . From 1 June 2014 to 31 May 2015 he served as mayor of Geneva ( Maire de Genève ) . He was also appointed city president for the 2018/19 year of office.
