Esther Alder

Esther Alder (* 1958 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss politician ( Greens ) and heads the social department ( Département de la cohésion sociale et de la solidarité ) of the city of Geneva. From June 1, 2015 to May 31, 2016, she held the office of Mayor of Geneva ( French Maire de Genève ).

From 1995 to 1997, Esther Alder was a member of the Geneva municipal council ( Conseil municipal ) , the legislature. Between 1997 and 2009 she was a Member of the Grand Council ( Grand Conseil ) of the Canton of Geneva . In 2011 Alder was elected to the Geneva city government ( Conseil administratif ) , the executive branch, to which she was re-elected in 2015.

Alder is the mother of two children.
