Samo Chalupka
Samo Chalupka (born February 27, 1812 in Horná Lehota , Austrian Empire ; † May 10, 1883 in Horná Lehota, Austria-Hungary ) was an Evangelical Lutheran pastor and poet and, like his older brother Ján Chalupka, an important representative of the Slovak national movement. He wrote exclusively in Slovak , which was only codified in his generation named after Ľudovít Štúr .
Life
Chalupka studied in Gemer , Käsmark , Rosenau and finally at the Protestant Lyceum in Pressburg (theology and philosophy). He took part in the November uprising in Poland and was wounded in the fighting in Galicia . After his return he finally finished his studies in Vienna in 1834 .
He was a Protestant chaplain in Chyžné , then in the years 1836-40 pastor in Jelšavská Teplica . After the death of his father he took over the parish of Horná Lehota, where he served as pastor until his death.
