The Sampsons Iceland Wildlife Sanctuary is a 37 acres (15 ha ) comprehensive protected area in Barnstable in the state of Massachusetts of the United States . It is administered by the Massachusetts Audubon Society .
Protected area
The reserve is located just off the coast of Cape Cod and is part of a beach wall system . Yellow-footed plovers , American little terns , common terns and brown-coat oystercatchers in particular regularly nest there on the beach or in the salt marshes , which is why the area is designated as an Important Bird Area . Hiking trails are not available, but kayak tours to the island can be booked from Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary .
