The Samsung Galaxy was the first smartphone from Samsung with the Android operating system . This made Samsung the second manufacturer of Android smartphones and opened competition on this platform. It is also the start of the huge success of Samsung's Galaxy series.

Like the majority of Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy only offers a virtual keyboard that is operated via the touchscreen .

Availability

In contrast to the first two Android smartphones, the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic , the Samsung Galaxy, like the third Android smartphone from HTC , the HTC Hero , was no longer exclusively available through a mobile operator , but also in free retail.

criticism

Due to the fact that Samsung discontinued support for new software with Android 1.6 "Donut" after the Samsung Galaxy had been on the market for only eight months, Samsung came under heavy criticism. Samsung advertised functions (in hardware and software) that were not available in the available firmware. In various forums, functions such as missing Bluetooth data transfer, incorrectly advertised color depth despite AMOLED and missing tether function (which was explicitly advertised) were criticized. Nevertheless, a large developer community formed around the Samsung Galaxy , which among other things offered an unofficial update to Android version 2.3 “Gingerbread”.
