The HTC Hero , also marketed as the T-Mobile G2 Touch , is the third serial device from the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC with the Android operating system in version 2.1 (Eclair) after the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic . T-Mobile distributed Android 2.1 in August 2010.
new hits
With the Hero and the Samsung Galaxy I7500 , which were launched around the same time , the phase in which Android smartphones were only available exclusively through certain mobile network operators ended . The HTC Hero is the first smartphone with the new HTC Sense user interface , a further development of TouchFLO that HTC uses on devices with the Windows Mobile operating system. The operating system thus occupies twice as much storage space as with the standard Android interface. The HTC Hero offers GPRS , UMTS , HSDPA but not HSCSD . Connections to the Internet are also possible via WLAN and EDGE .
Support from external projects
The HTC Hero is further supported by projects based on the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) . Versions of the Android operating system are currently available in versions 2.2 (Froyo), 2.3 (Gingerbread) and 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). In numerous developer communities , such as xda-developers.com, ROMs for the HTC Hero are being further developed independently of the manufacturer.
These ROMs enable, among other things, new functions:
An updated kernel based on Linux kernel version 2.6.35 is also being developed.
