HTC Sense (codename Manila 2.5 ) is the further development of the user interface TouchFLO , on touch screen - smartphone from HTC with Windows Mobile , with Brew MP and Android such as the HTC Hero is used.
General
HTC Sense was presented in February 2010 by HTC boss Peter Chou as follows:
“A mobile phone is undoubtedly one of the most personal possessions these days. HTC Sense was developed so that every user can actually set up a very individual user interface for a very personal mobile experience. A unique visual experience and the management of messages from social networks with the new Friend Stream widget are particularly outstanding . The surface is placed over the normal Android surface or on the 'Today' screen of Windows Mobile. It should enable the user to customize his mobile phone. "
The distinguishing feature of the HTC Sense UI surface is the cross-platform digital clock in retro design, which provides information on the current weather situation at the respective location. There are also various desktop screens available to the user, for example seven instead of three (as with standard Android) start screens in the Android version, as well as a “helicopter view” in which all screens are shown in a reduced version at the same time. In addition to the actual user interface, the HTC widgets have some special functions. For example, the HTC Friend Stream widget informs you about current reports on various social networks such as Facebook , Twitter or the Flickr photo service . Other HTC widgets provide information about stock prices, historical events or other functions such as the exact charge level of the battery. In addition, the browser, the e-mail client and the feed reader for HTC Sense have been redesigned. The first HTC mobile phone to receive the HTC Sense was the HTC Hero . HTC Sense was delivered with Android 2.1 via automatic update via the Internet.
The HTC Desire and the HTC Legend were the first HTC phones to ship from the factory with the HTC Sense.
HTC Sense has been published in a total of eight versions to date (as of January 2013). The version is mainly based on Google's mobile operating system Android. There is also HTC Sense for Windows Mobile and Brew MP , but no other versions have been developed. The HTC HD2 was the only Windows Mobile smartphone to be shipped with the HTC Sense.
Versions
HTC Sense 2.0
Sense 2.0 was the first version to be superimposed on Google Android. It increased the number of Android home screens from the usual three to five. Many widgets have also been added, most notably the retro-style clock widget and the weather widget.
Sense 2.0 was released with Android 2.1 and 2.2.
HTC Sense 2.1
At the beginning of 2011 HTC presented the slightly optically revised version 2.1; the functional changes were minor. The first devices to be shipped were the HTC Desire S and the HTC Incredible S with Sense 2.1. The HTC Desire HD was subsequently supplied with Sense 2.1.
HTC Sense 2.1 was shipped primarily with Android 2.3.3. The HTC Flyer was also shipped with Sense 2.1, but with Android 2.3.5. Sense 2.1 on the HTC Flyer is more like Sense 3.0 in terms of functionality.
HTC Sense 3.0
Sense 3.0 was introduced in August 2011 as part of the presentation of the HTC Sensation . The most striking innovation is the extensively redesigned lock screen , from which selected applications can be started directly. A task manager has also been added that can terminate applications directly, and the redesigned weather app received new animations.
Sense 3.0 was shipped on the HTC Desire S, HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S with Android 2.3.5. Sense 3.0 was delivered with Android 2.3.4 on the HTC Evo 3D. The HTC Sensation was shipped with 2.3.3 and Sense 3.0.
HTC Sense 3.5
Sense 3.5 appeared in autumn 2011, optically revised, with new widgets and fewer resources. There were two variants:
- Bliss , specially developed for women and visually very different from older versions. In addition, the typical Sense bar at the bottom of the screen has been replaced by two buttons for the apps and the telephone function. "Bliss" was only shipped on the HTC Rhyme .
- Runny , as a general variant, looks similar to its predecessors. The most striking difference to Sense 3.0 is the transparent bar and the revised retro clock widget, which is now also available in a slightly smaller size. Runny came with the HTC Sensation XL and the HTC Velocity.
Sense 3.5 was delivered on the HTC Rhyme, the HTC Sensation XL and the HTC Explorer with Android 2.3.5, on the HTC Velocity with Android 2.3.7.
HTC Sense 3.6
Sense 3.6 was released in March 2012 as part of the Android 4.0 version for the HTC Sensation and the HTC Sensation XE . Sense has been optically adapted to Android 4.0. New functions were not built into Sense itself, but are already included in Android 4.0 itself. Until September 2012, the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Sensation XL, HTC Incredible S, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Rhyme and HTC Desire Sense 3.6 received.
HTC Sense 4.0
Sense 4.0 was released in March 2012 with the new smartphone family HTC One . The new version is visually much slimmer than its predecessor. Most of the widgets have been completely redesigned, especially visible on the new retro watch. Sense 4.0 looks much more minimalistic than its predecessor. Production manager Kouji Kodera describes Sense 4.0 as follows:
From the original Sense up to Sense 3.5 we added too many things. The original concept was that it had to be simple and it had to be easy to use and we had that philosophy, but over time it got cluttered. There where too many things in there. Even on the home screen we had four or five icons before consumers got a chance to add things themselves. For the HTC One range we have taken it down to Sense 2 again. What we've done right now is a good mixture of keeping Sense and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich element in a good balance. We haven't tried to change everything here. We have kept a lot of the ICS element but still added the Sense Flavor on top of it.

The original concept was that it had to be simple and easy to use and that was our philosophy, but as time went on, Sense got cluttered. There were too many things in there. Even on the home screen there were four or five icons before the consumer even added any. For the HTC One series we have reduced it to two again. What we've done now is a well-balanced mix of elements from Sense and Google's Ice Cream Sandwich . We haven't tried to change anything. We kept many of the ICS elements while still adding the sense of flavor.
HTC Sense 4.1
Sense 4.1 was announced on August 18, 2012 and was released for the HTC One X and HTC One S as part of the update to Android 4.0.4 .

Sense 4+ (sometimes Sense 4.5) was announced for the HTC One X + in 2012, and it was also distributed to the HTC One X and HTC One S as part of the update to Android 4.1.2 . A special feature here is that HTC smartphones with Sense 4+ still support Adobe Flash Player despite Android 4.1.2 , although its support for Android 4.1.x has been discontinued.
HTC Sense 5.0
Sense 5.0 was first introduced on the HTC One on February 18, 2013 . Innovations are "Zoe", a camera app and BlinkFeed, an app that continuously summarizes various messages, as well as some new widgets and new settings in the notification bar. In addition, the 3D effects and other optical features have been removed and a flat design has been introduced.
The HTC One X and HTC One X + received an update to Sense 5.0 .
HTC Sense 5.5
Sense 5.5 was introduced in October 2013 with the HTC One Max . As an innovation, you can now read BlinkFeed messages without an Internet connection or switch them off completely. You can also add your own web feeds . Furthermore, the quick settings can now be individually adjusted and offer a "do not disturb" function.
HTC Sense 6.0
Sense 6.0 was introduced on March 25, 2014, at the same time as the presentation of the HTC One (M8) . New features include the Themes function and the ability to choose an alternative font. HTC continues to rely on a flat and moderate design for the latest Sense surface, which is now more colorful than the previous Sense version. The camera and gallery app have been redesigned and made more minimalist. Also Sense TV has been revised and is, for example, at a sporting event, the respective results live in the app on, also there's a Fan Talk range with which you can track Twitter posts to a particular event.
For developers, HTC now offers the BlinkFeed SDK app , in which articles can be displayed.
HTC Sense 7.0
Sense 7.0 was introduced on March 1, 2015, at the same time as the presentation of the HTC One M9 . Themes can now also be downloaded and change not only the color and font, but also widgets, app design and icons. You can create your own themes using the "Themes Creator" or the camera. The shot image is automatically converted into a theme that uses the basic colors of the image. It is also possible to create new themes via a web interface. Blinkfeed messages are now also displayed on the lock screen, and there is a launcher on the home screen that automatically adapts to the user. For example, it offers different apps for home or work. The so-called “One Gallery”, which combines various cloud services such as Dropbox or Google Drive within one app, and innovative image processing functions are also new.
Sense 7.0 is already preinstalled on the HTC One M9 and will also appear as an update for the HTC One from 2013 and its successor, the HTC One (M8) from 2014.
HTC Sense 8
The Sense version that came with the HTC 10 is now also available for devices from other manufacturers in the Play Store. The surface was also minimized. In addition to the standard launcher with HTC Blinkfeed, it is possible to use a layout called “Freestyle”. In this, apps can be freely placed on the screen without a grid or app symbols. The individual apps are visualized using various elements that match the background image, such as a hot air balloon, sunglasses or a tree. The theming of the quick settings was omitted, it now looks identical to the settings of the Stock Android theme.

The ninth version of the Sense Launcher was introduced along with the HTC U11 .
HTC Sense 10
The tenth version of the Sense Launcher was introduced along with the HTC U12 + .
