The HTC HD2 (internal code name Leo ) is a smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system . Most of the functions can also be used via the in-house HTC Sense user interface , which is, so to speak, above the actual Windows Mobile operating system as a "skin" . HTC Sense was developed because the now outdated Windows Mobile was designed for use with pen-controlled PDAs and was therefore not ideal for finger control on capacitive touchscreens . The Windows Mobile user interface is only used for settings on the phone that are rarely used, for example when searching for data or downloading apps from the in-house Microsoft Marketplace . The HD2 is the first Windows Mobile Phone that has a capacitive touchscreen and supports multi-touch .
In addition to the Windows Mobile supplied, the Google Android operating system and the new Windows Phone 7 can be installed on the device as a so-called custom ROM. The developers at XDA-Developers have been working on the device's very open platform since shortly after the HD2 was released. However, you should make sure that the manufacturer's guarantee no longer applies after a custom ROM installation. However, this can be restored with an official Rome. Android is available in different versions (from 2.0 to 4.4) that are either started from the SD card parallel to Windows Mobile, or as a so-called NAND version that completely replaces Windows Mobile. With the current version of Windows Phone 7, it is even possible to fully use the live services and the marketplace.
The successor model HTC HD7 , which is supplied with the new Windows Phone 7 operating system, has been available in stores since October 21, 2010 . However, due to its severe limitations, this closed operating system is rated differently by the trade press than the Windows Mobile of the HD2.
