The HTC Desire phones are smartphones from the manufacturer HTC with the operating system Android . The first model appeared on the European market at the end of March 2010.
Desire
The HTC Desire , also known as HTC Bravo , is a smartphone made by HTC with the Android operating system . It appeared on the European market at the end of March 2010 in the colors dark brown and silver.
It has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor and version 2.2 of the Android operating system. There are strong external similarities to the Nexus One smartphone , which was also manufactured by HTC on behalf of Google . In contrast to the Nexus One, HTC's own Sense user interface is installed on the Desire , which is also used on the HTC HD2 Windows smartphone, among other things . It also differs from the Nexus One in that it has an optical trackball , which is replaced by a mechanical trackball in the Nexus One. In addition, unlike the HTC Desire, the Nexus One has an additional microphone for active noise cancellation .
The device offers a 5 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, WLAN, a GPS receiver, an FM radio as well as an acceleration sensor and a digital compass . In the first phase of release, the HTC Desire had a capacitive multi-touch screen with OLED technology. Thanks to the update of the operating system to Android 2.2 (Froyo), the HTC Desire is now also able to record videos with a resolution of 720p.
Since late summer 2010, the device has been supplied with a Super LCD instead of the AMOLED screen, as Samsung needed the capacity for AMOLED screens for its own production. According to test reports, the now installed SLCD screen is equivalent to the previous AMOLED screen.
The 512 megabyte internal memory can be expanded up to 32 GB with a microSD or microSDHC card. With a display resolution of 480 × 800 pixels, images, texts and graphics in games are displayed sharply.
On August 1, 2011, an update to Android 2.3.3 was made available on the developer website. This update removes all adjustments made by the network providers and brings a few features of the Sense 2.1 interface with it. Due to the small internal memory, however, the HTC apps Teeter and Flashlight, as well as most of the background images , have been removed from the ROM and added as an APK file in the zip file.
The direct successor model is the HTC Desire S (see below) with the somewhat faster processor, more RAM and internal storage, a front camera for video telephony, but otherwise almost identical specifications. The unibody aluminum housing is also new. HTC also offered two sister models with different focuses. These are the Desire Z (hardware keyboard) and the Desire HD (larger display).

The Desire HD was released on October 18, 2010.
The AMOLED touchscreen of the first Desire generation was no longer used because Samsung could not deliver enough AMOLED displays in 2010. The Desire HD has a WVGA Super-LCD with a diagonal of 4.3 inches. The camera can record videos in HD resolution ( 720p ) and pictures with eight megapixels. In contrast to the sister model HTC Desire Z, the Desire HD has no physical input keys and no trackball.
HTC is the first manufacturer to install the 1 GHz MSM8255 Scorpion CPU in a mobile phone. This second generation Snapdragon processor was manufactured using the energy-saving 45 nm process and enables better integration, efficiency and doubles the performance of the GPU. This allows longer talk and standby times than with the HTC Desire with a lower battery capacity.
The HTC Desire HD has access to 768 MB RAM and 1.5 GB internal storage. This can be expanded with microSDHC cards up to 32 GB in size.
The Desire HD was initially also shipped with Android 2.2 and HTC Sense 2.0. At the beginning of May 2011 it was updated to Android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1, and on December 8, 2011 an update with Android 2.3.5 and the heavily revised Sense 3.0 interface was released. HTC announced on Facebook in February 2012 that the Desire HD will receive an update to Android 4.0 later this year. However, HTC retracted this statement in July 2012 on the official blog, since the current version of HTC Sense with Android 2.3.5 offers the greatest customer satisfaction.

It is the second Android phone made by HTC with a hardware keyboard. In contrast to the sister models, the processor is clocked at only 800 MHz. As with the Desire and Desire S models, the screen diagonal measures 3.7 inches. As with the HTC Desire HD, there is no AMOLED screen and instead a WVGA Super LC display is installed. The built-in camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and can record videos in 720p. When sales began in October 2010, the HTC Desire Z was shipped with Android 2.2 and an adapted version of Sense 2.0. At the end of July 2011, it was updated to Android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1.

In contrast to its sister models HTC Desire HD and HTC Desire Z, the HTC Desire S is the direct successor to the first HTC Desire.
The HTC Desire S has a 1 GHz processor with 768 MB RAM memory. The five megapixel camera and LED flash take photos and video recordings in HD quality with 720p. Video calls can be made with the built-in front camera. The 1450 mAh battery offers a standby time of up to 455 hours and a talk time of up to 590 minutes. In contrast to the HTC Desire, the HTC Desire S no longer has pushbuttons and is operated via sensor keys and the touchscreen.
The resolution and screen diagonal are identical to the original Desire, but it has a front camera and more RAM (768 MB instead of 512 MB). The internal memory has also been increased from 512 MB to just over 1 GB.
Sales of the Desire S started in March 2011. HTC delivers the Desire S with Android 2.3.3 and Sense 2.1. At the end of September 2011, the smartphone received an update to Android 2.3.5 and the new version of the HTC Sense 3.0 interface.
In August 2012, an update to Android version 4.0 was available for a few weeks. However, as previously announced, this was not offered as FOTA (“firmware over the air”), but via a RUU (“rom update utility”). The update process involves re-partitioning the memory, which is why all user data is lost. The download is located at htcdev.com.

The Desire X (also known as HTC Proto ) was presented by HTC at the 52nd IFA 2012 in Berlin and launched in September. By default, it runs under the Android 4.0.4 operating system with version 4.1 of the Sense interface. An update to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with Sense 4+ has been available since the beginning of May 2013. It is equipped with a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800 × 480 pixels (equivalent to 233 dpi ). The device has a 1000 MHz dual-core processor and 768 MB of RAM. It is the first device in the Desire series with two processor cores. The internal memory of 4 GB can be increased by up to 32 GB with a microSD card. Beats audio technology is also included.
The Desire X fits into the mid-range smartphone category, but can convince in many tests with a good price-performance ratio. With its 4-inch screen size, it may as successor to the HTC Incredible S are, under the current devices from HTC it competes most closely with the One V . Just like this, it has - just like the Desire C - the scheme of the three softkeys below the screen (from left to right: Back, Home, Task Manager) introduced by HTC with Android 4.0. The task manager is kept in the standard Android style. In Sense version 4.1, a long press on the task manager symbol opens the context menu for apps that have not yet been adapted to Android 4.0.
The design of the Desire X is based heavily on that of the HTC One series. Like the devices in this series, it has a laminated display that leaves no gap between the display and the touch-sensitive layer. The camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and has a chip with back exposure , but it cannot record videos in HD resolution. The Desire X has no front camera and no compass.
