Samuel Charles Whitbread

Samuel Charles Whitbread (born February 16, 1796 - † May 27, 1879 in London ) was a British politician.

Life

Samuel Charles Whitbread was the youngest son of Samuel Whitbread and his wife Elizabeth (nee Gray). He grew up with an older brother, William Henry Whitbread , and two sisters. Through his mother he was related to the Earls Gray .

Samuel Charles Whitbread was taught by a private tutor from 1802 to 1807. He then attended Eton College and St. John's College at the University of Cambridge . In 1819 he and his brother became a partner in the brewery that their grandfather had founded . In the general election in 1820, Whitbread was elected to the House of Commons in the Middlesex constituency. He was a member of this until 1830. From 1831 to 1832 he held the office of High Sheriff of Bedfordshire .

Whitbread had been a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society since 1849 . From 1857 to 1878 he acted as the company's treasurer . He was also one of the founding members of the British Meteorological Society in 1850 and became a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1854 .

On June 28, 1824 he married Juliana Trevor († October 13, 1858), the daughter of Henry Otway Trevor . The marriage produced three sons and three daughters, including the later MP Samuel Whitbread . On February 18, 1868 he married Lady Mary Stephenson Keppel († September 20, 1884), the daughter of William Charles, 4th Earl of Albemarle and widow of Henry Frederick Stephenson .
